Caroline & Nick weren’t going to let a little bad weather, ok really bad weather (Hurricane Joaquin) ruin their dream Hermitage Hill Farm & Stables Wedding.
Their eyes met one night at a local spot over Thanksgiving 2007 when Caroline was home visiting from Vet school, Nick was living in VA and was working for the government. Nick made the first move, they instantly clicked, became lost in conversation & have been together ever since. Fast forward 7 years, they had planned a trip to Savage River Lodge for their anniversary where they spent the weekend snuggled up in a cabin with their dog and enjoying the beautiful surroundings of the lodge. They both love being outdoors and had decided to take a long hike, but unbeknownst to Caroline, Nick was planning to ask her to be his wife. It was a dreary grey day and their hike led them on a new eerie path where they quickly decided to turn around and hike on a familiar path.
By this time Nick was sweating with anticipation but the timing still wasn’t right. They headed back to the lodge hoping to see the bonfire that was there the night before, but no luck. As they were sitting on hay bales Nick started to become extra nervous, he got Caroline to stand as if to leave then he dropped on one knee and finally asked her what his heart had been wanting. Caroline says it may not have gone as planned but it was incredibly sweet.
Caroline loves horses, so when it was time to pick the location for their wedding they went with Hermitage Hill Farm. It’s the perfect venue showcasing it’s rustic feel and equestrian style and that’s the exact theme that she was looking for. They kept the equestrian motif throughout the design, with details like horse shoes, racing ribbons, a chalkboard saying, ” feed the horses” next to a bowl of carrots & of course real horses! The color scheme of soft hues with pops of cranberry, like her bridesmaids long dresses & stunning florals really made for a show stopper.
Their day was filled with love, laughter, family & friends. In Caroline’s own words she recalls, “even when things didn’t go as planned (queue Hurricane Joaquin), no one was phased and it made for an even more memorable time being in the barn for the ceremony (the rustling of horses in their stalls and even a whinny during the vows!).
